Teeth Whitening Overview

June 7, 2017 - 3 minutes read

It can be wildly frustrating to practice good oral hygiene and come for regular exams and cleanings but still feel uncomfortable about the looks of your teeth. There are many reasons that teeth become discolored, and it is why Kurz Family Dentistry in Dacula, GA

encourages you to consider teeth whitening treatments if you are self-conscious about your smile.

Two Kinds of Discoloration

Did you know that you might use our tooth whitening treatments to address the two different kinds of teeth staining? There is the extrinsic staining that occurs to the outer layers of enamel on your teeth. This can be due to activities like smoking, drinking staining beverages (think coffee, tea, wine, darkly colored juices, and so on), and eating a diet high in sugary foods. There are also intrinsic stains which are much deeper in the enamel and which our teeth whitening specialist may be able to address with in office whitening. This can be staining from infection, medications or injury.

If we cannot achieve goals through teeth whitening, we have cosmetic dentistry solutions that can create permanent repairs such as the use of dental crowns, bonding or porcelain veneers.

If your dental discoloration can be addressed with our in office teeth whitening, which is the Glo Whitening system, you will be able to see your teeth lighten by several shades in one visit. We also offer a smaller take home system that utilizes the same whitening formula but does not include the unique light apparatus, so whitening can take much longer.

Whether you opt for the in office treatment or a take home teeth whitening kit, you will see remarkable results. You can use this prior to some cosmetic dentistry to ensure that your teeth are as white as possible and that any restorations are a lighter shade, too. You can use it for special events or even as part of one of your regular cleanings to give your smile that perfect finishing touch.
